Volunteering

Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do at Stourbridge Glass Museum. Whether you are wanting to learn new skills or meet new friends, it is an exciting time to be joining us. We opened in April 2022 and this brand new museum is dedicated to Glass making and heritage in the Stourbridge area.

We are developing a brand new volunteer programme where there is plenty to get involved with.

Available Roles

Front of House Volunteer

You will provide all visitors to the Museum with a warm welcome and help them to have a great day out. Our staff and volunteers are passionate about the museum and its collections and want to build a reputation for providing exceptional customer service. You will be selling tour tickets, retail items, giving introductions to the museum galleries, and helping to maintain the security of the building.

Tour Guide Volunteer

Tour guides have a vital role to play in delivering inspiring and enjoyable tours, helping our visitors to learn more about our collections and the history of Glassmaking in Stourbridge. Currently the museum is offering several different type of tours.

This role will suit you if…

  • Love talking to people of all ages.
  • Outgoing personality and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Interest and enthusiasm to share the social stories of workers and our collections.
  • Developing your own tour based on your interest and also help out with events and educational events.

Back of House Volunteer

 Various jobs needs to be done around the museum, i.e, helping the curator for new exhibition, stock take for the museum shops, sorting out of the donated glass for sales.

This role will suit you if…

  • Work well independently.

  • Are confident with Microsoft packages: Excel, Word, Outlook.

  • Are precise.

  • Are reliable and committed.

Activity & Events Volunteer

The museum hosts various activities for both children and adults throughout the year.  This role is to work with the museum staff to help children doing the craft, helping to run the activity with museum staff, stewarding the Canal walks and tunnel tours and promote the museum at the external events.

This role will suit you if…

  • You are used to supporting children to learn.
  • You have patience and are dedicated to Children achieving a great experience.
  • Are a great team player.

Conservation and Library Volunteer

Working with the museum curator to work with collection items and cataloguing library book collection.

This role will suit you if…

  • You are patient and diligent.

  • Can work alone and as part of a small team.

  • Enjoy working behind the scenes.
